Dr James E. Pickering, BEng(Hons), PhD, SFHEA, MIET, MInstMC

Mission statement: To foster collaboration between academia and industry in the field of control engineering, driving innovation and knowledge exchange that contribute to the advancements of technology for the benefit of society.

James is currently a Lecturer in Control Engineering at Aston University in the United Kingdom. He also serves as the Programme Director for the Future Vehicle Technologies MSc program at Aston University.

James is passionate about enhancing the teaching of control engineering. He has developed innovative tools to help bridge the gap between control theory and practical application. One of these tools is called "Control-Lab-in-a-Box," (CLB) which comprises a series of practical labs designed to enhance students' understanding of the practical aspects of control engineering. CLB involves the use of control theory and simulation tools to design the practical control system.

James has a strong interest in applied control engineering research, particularly in collaborating with industry to tackle real-world industrial problems. His research primarily focuses on the development of control algorithms, specifically in the area of embedded control, employing a model-based design approach. This method allows for the creation of robust and efficient control systems tailored to the specific needs of various applications.

James is eager to engage with industry partners who are facing complex problems that can benefit from innovative control solutions. If you are interested in collaborating or discussing potential educational and research opportunities, please feel free to reach out.
